The Role of the WMA

  • to encourage individual participation in community activities and government
  • to provide a means for citizen contact with the municipal government
  • to represent and intervene when necessary at Westmount City Council meetings
  • to take a stand on public issues by examining all sides and determining a course of action
  • to do citizen surveys to allow a full range of opinion and feedback
  • to hold open meetings with a variety of guest speakers of interest to Westmounters
  • to organize sessions of Meet the Candidates Night for municipal, school board, provincial and federal elections
  • to recognize volunteerism through the Derek Walker Volunteer Citizen of the Year Award
  • to attend the Westmount Remembrance Day ceremony on behalf of all Westmount residents
  • to keep citizens informed of city issues of current concern
  • to assist citizens and groups who wish to bring issues to public attention
  • to serve as a consultative body of informed citizens for council to use as a sounding board
