Role
The WMA, a non-partisan volunteer organization founded in 1908, has the following mission:
- to encourage individual participation in community activities and government,
- to provide a means for citizen contact with the municipal government,
- to represent and intervene when necessary at Westmount City Council meetings.
We support this mission by:
- organizing sessions of Meet the Candidates Night for municipal, provincial and federal elections,
- recognizing volunteerism through the Derek Walker Volunteer Citizen of the Year Award,
- holding open meetings with a variety of guest speakers of interest to Westmounters,
- performing citizen surveys to allow a full range of opinion and feedback,
- assisting citizens and groups who wish to bring issues to public attention,
- serving as a consultative body of informed citizens for council to use as a sounding board,
- keeping citizens informed of city issues of current concern through our website,
- attending the Westmount Remembrance Day ceremony on behalf of all Westmount residents.
